Os verbos em inglês e (verbs), assim como em português são palavras que expressam uma ação, estado, condição ou existência. Por exemplo: ask (perguntar), be (ser ou estar), believe (acreditar).
Os verbos em inglês, como em português, são conjugados em diferentes tempos verbais para expressar tempo. Alguns tempos verbais são:
- Simple present. Por exemplo: answer, answers.
- Simple past. Por exemplo: answered.
- Future simple. Por exemplo: will answer.

Tipos de verbos em inglês
De acordo com a sua transitividade, podem ser:
- Verbos transitivos. Aceitam um objeto direto. Por exemplo: love, tell, play.
- Verbos intransitivos. Não aceitam um objeto. Por exemplo: live, work, come.
De acordo sua a forma de conjugação, podem ser:
- Verbos regulares. Adicionam a terminação –ed para formar o simple past e o past participle. Por exemplo: visit (visited), complain (complained), walk (walked).
- Verbos irregulares. Não adicionam a terminação –ed. Por exemplo: go (went), eat (ate), sleep (slept).
Existem as phrasal verbs (verbos frasais), que são verbos formados por duas partes: um verbo mais uma preposição ou advérbio, que juntos formam um novo verbo com um novo significado. Por exemplo: come back (voltar), call for (exigir), carry out (realizar).
Os verbos mais usados em inglês
Os verbos abaixo são os mais utilizados no idioma inglês. O simple past é a forma passada; o past participle (particípio passado) é utilizado para a formação dos perfect tenses (present perfect, past perfect, future perfect), assim como também a passive voice (voz passiva) e os past modals (verbos modais no passado).
